Staring blankly out of the window, the gray sky made even more grey by the thick fug of jetlag. Oh to be back under the clear light of our favourite star.

Jetlag is a slippery customer, fooling me into thinking that I can operate coherently and plough through the post and the in-box, when in reality I am stuck in a two minute memory holding-pattern, craving the next hit of caffeine, and trying to remember my name.

This I have to do for the bank/tax office/sake of my sanity. In truth, I would rather be remembering the warmth and beauty of the sunset in the Margaret river, Western Australia.

Air travel was more of a challenge on the return leg, with wheelchair misroutes and wheels coming off only to go missing temporarily at Heathrow. All was recovered pretty quickly, but it was a nerve-shredding experience after 13 hours aloft.

My latest column in The Times came out today, here-linked for those who would like  a read.

Now, where was I? Nurse! Nurse! More coffee!

Tim I enjoyed your article yesterday in the times very much. Children are often amazingly perceptive. Unfortunately I am a retired person without any grandchildren. My son aged 32 is living in Los Angeles. Our neighbours have a young family and we pass over presents for birthdays and Christmas. Life for us retirees is pretty hectic and I run a blog as well as walking, swimming and playing bridge and doing a lot of socialising. Jet lag is something my wife and I try to avoid. Going to South Africa in October was fine because of the lack of time difference.

Sorry to hear you suffer from bouts of severe pain. Not sure how much spare time you`ve got but you might like to look in on my blog at jeffers15.multiply.com Some of it is humourous but I try to insert a few more worthy topics from time to time.

Welcome home, to you and your great little family. You were all missed. Hope the pain eases a bit soon.
